Broadband connection in Russia and Ukraine
As broadband connection I will understand users, that connected to internet via ADSL, IDSN, T1 and other types of connection faster than dial-up. Data from different sources differ a little, figures below was taken from the Vox.ru research.
Russia
Russia
Internet connection types in Russia (end of 2003 – begin of 2004)
% Mlns
Dial up 68,0% 9,93
ADSL 3,9% 0,57
ISDN 4,0% 0,58
HNet* 18,4% 2,69
GPRS 11,8% 1,72
Others 2,8% 0,41
Total number of Internet users, POP (1) 14,60
Hnet - Home network
Data above shows Internet usage from home. Assuming that cost of broadband connection is less significant for businesses overall number of users with broadband access should be higher.
Quote:
J&P expects 1,000,000 new dial-up users in 2004 as Internet audience growth moved mainly into the regions. Dialup/broadband usage ratio will grow from current 55/45 to 52/48 by the end of 2004.
Ukraine
Unfortunately there is no public statistic regarding number of broadband connection regarding Ukraine was found. If we assume that Russian tendency actual for Ukraine and take in account that in the Ukraine local phone air time is paid by minutes, we can count that number of dial-up users in Ukraine is about 60% or 2.28 Mln and broadband users about 1.32 Mln.
